"They say that chocolate is the 'food of the gods" and I believe it," says Elise Erro, owner and creator of Soma Exquisite Chocolate Truffles. For the past 17 years she has blended the sublte tastes of the finest chocolate with both classic and innovative ingredients to offer chocolate lovers a near-mystical experience and a welcome change of pace.

Soma Exquisite Chocolate Truffles were first conceived with inspiration from the Chocolate Foundry of Cherry Creek, Denver, Colorado in 1988. After Erro moved to Prescott Arizona the following year, she began exploring the flavors of the American Southwest. Here, she decided to tap the roots of cocoa's history, taking her lead directly from the ancient Aztecs who perferred their unsweetened chocolate "straight up" with a hit of chili. Her result - the hot, sweet taste of "Cocoa Caliente", Soma's signature Soutwestern flavors in chocolate. In 1998, the creation delighted judges at the Fiery Food Challange in Albuquerque, New Mexico where Cocoa Caliente took a second place award in the Hot Candy division.

Soma's newest taste sensations come from the ever-popular combining of chocolate and gourmet coffees. The java magic created by coffee-master Kelly Sell of Prescott Coffee Roasters produced the spark that Erro was looking for. Soma now includes a line of "Coffee Lover's Truffles," which is proving to be its most popular seller yet. It is no surprise. Quality ingredients mean a quality product.

"We at Soma are truffle-makers. And we are proud of it," Elise says.
